Here you will also find handsome ruins in the spring and the wonderful vision, a large occurrence of real cowslips.
The distinguishing features of the cowslip, among others, are the yellow-flowered, very fragrant flowers with their five orange spots (juice marks) in the throat of the flower. The high cowslip, however, smells less strong and the throat of their flowers is golden yellow. The calyx is pale green, bulbous and bell-shaped in the true cowslip, while in the tall cowslip it fits snugly against the petals. The cowslip is under protection. Both the so-called Forest Cowslip or High Cowslip (Primula elatior) and the True Cowslip (Primula veris) are under special protection in Germany and many other countries. The medicinal plants have been pushed to almost the edge of extinction by extensive agriculture and wild collections in some regions, so that today they can no longer be picked or excavated in many places.
