The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación is one of the most important churches that has been built in Spain in recent centuries. It rises in the old town of Marbella, in the immediate vicinity of the former Hospital Bazan.
The canonical establishment of the church can be dated to the year 1505; the building in its current form was built at the beginning of the 18th century. The church presents itself as a basilica in the Rococo and Baroque styles.
A procession takes place every year at Easter. Numerous men carry the statue of Mary on a throne through Marbella.
Inside the church there are wonderful murals, valuable sculptures and the imposing organ to admire. Adjacent are the remains of the Moorish fortress of Marbella from the 9th century.
