Road Cycling Highlight (Segment)
The Neckar was used for centuries as a transport route and often seen only as a shipping channel for ships - "regulated" by barrages and the banks partially concreted. The project "Neckarbiotop Zugwiesen" shows vividly that it can also go differently and humans, animals, plants and the requirements of a modern industrial society are very well in harmony. At a length of approx. 1.7 km, the Poppenweiler dam is bypassed in a natural way, enabling fish and other living creatures to cope with the barrage. The small lakes and bays in the "bypass channel" are nurseries and spawning grounds for amphibians who spend the winter in the forest next door. This circular walk also leads through this hillside forest.Marvel at the variety of bird watching possible in the flood plains.
