Passwang, we think of Jura pastures, cowbells and meadows full of yellow gentian. The goal of our hike from the Neuhüsli bus station on Passwangstrasse towards Ulmet into the Bogental is a body of water. A very special body of water that tells us about a long past use.Shortly before the Hof Bogental we meet a pond. The Archental pond was created around 1595 and was used to float wood until the beginning of the 19th century. By quickly emptying the pond, the wood could be released with the tidal wave via Lüssel and Birs to Basel. Today the pond is an important spawning area for amphibians. Instead of cowbells, we can still hear the ringing of the "Glöggli frog", the call of the rare midwife toad, which reminds us of a distant ringing of bells.
