In letters from the year 1388 (Ocko tom Brock) Greetsiel is mentioned for the first time in a document. Hamburg ships were then at anchor in the port of Greetsiel and had to pay duty. The town was founded by the domain Appingen from among the chiefs of Cirksena. While Appingen lost more and more importance, Greetsiel became the chief seat. Today, the place has over 1500 inhabitants.

I always park centrally at Edeka and walk along the Leyhörner Sielief there it is much quieter than in town!

In summer you should avoid the place. Absolutely crowded with tourists. Very nice restaurants and cafes. Make a reservation at the weekend.

Beautiful old fishing village. Unfortunately very touristy and accordingly well visited. Those who do not let themselves be deterred will sometimes find nice shops and almost always good gastronomy.
