The Horkheim hydroelectric power station was built in the course of the Neckar canalization and put into operation in 1929. It is one of the large number of hydroelectric power plants that were built mainly on the southern German rivers (Danube, Lech, Iller, Inn, Main, Upper Rhine or Neckar) in the 1920s and 1930s. Paul Bonatz was responsible for the design of the power plant building in the modern style.
