    1983 as the front runner in the well-known classic Paris-Roubaix at about seven kilometers before the finish place Roubaix was hit by bad luck and asked for a new bicycle. He was able to continue his race after eighteen seconds that seemed like an eternity. This to the great relief of the fans and the countless television viewers. Moments later, Kuiper was the winner of the finish line in Roubaix. It is a memorable moment in Dutch sports history.
