The patronage "Maria (or in other spelling Mariae) Visitation" of this chapel in Burglahr refers to one of the many days of commemoration or feast days in honor of the Mother of God Maria. With the term "visitation" - which is negatively affected in our current language - is meant in the Bible, however, Mary's visit to her relative Elisabeth. She is married to Zacharias and the marriage has no children, which was a social flaw at the time. But now she became pregnant - despite her old age - what the Archangel Gabriel told Maria when he brought her the message that she should bring the Son of God into the world. The son of Elisabeth and Zacharias is John with the nickname "the Baptist", who is considered to be the forerunner / pioneer of Jesus Christ.

The chapel at the foot of the castle hill, in the middle of a group of picturesque half-timbered houses, probably dates from the second half of the 17th century. It is a plastered, single-nave quarry stone building with a three-sided choir closure, 8.75 meters long and 3.70 meters wide.
The chapel is equipped with a simple baroque wooden altar. This has a height of 3.25 meters. In the middle niche there is a 0.75 meter tall wooden figure of the Mother of God with her child.
