The Spee'sche Graben was created from 1806 on the demolition of blasted former fortifications in Dusseldorf and is named after the Palais Spee in the old town of Dusseldorf. Parts of the fortress walls can still be seen on the northern edge of the ditch that runs through the southern Düssel. The peninsula in Spee'schen Graben has been open to the public since 1945.More info: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spee%E2%80%99scher_Graben
