Beautifully located for stunning adventures along the coast or rambles inland into the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the historic port town of Folkestone has a lot going for it. Walks around Folkestone take you from the grand Edwardian architecture and cobbled streets of the town centre onto some of the most scenic footpaths the South East has to offer.
The picturesque harbour is a great start point for an invigorating coast walk. There’s the possibility of excellent circular routes, with the clifftop paths allowing you to enjoy huge sea views before returning along the beach, beneath the greensand cliffs. There are plenty of poignant reminders of wartime to discover, such as the Battle of Britain Memorial and Abbot’s Cliff Sound Mirror.
Folkestone is nestled in a valley where the North Downs escarpment meets the English Channel. The North Downs Way long-distance trail traverses the hills to the north of Folkestone. A stroll along here reveals lovely views down to the town and towards where the trains bound for France enter the Channel Tunnel.
