A largely flat area with a few isolated hills, you’ll find walks through North Somerset as easy on the legs as they are on the eyes. With a Bristol Channel coastline in the west and the beginnings of the Mendip Hills in the east, there’s much to explore here on foot. Beachside ambles, tidal rock pools, nature reserves, grand mansions and ice cream shacks, this region is just as wonderful for families as it is for long-distance walkers.
Some of the most amazing hikes in North Somerset take you across this section of the Somerset Levels. Flat as a pancake, the levels are criss-crossed with drainage channels and phenomenal starling murmurations are common here from October to March. There are hundreds of miles of footpaths in this flat expanse, but if you’re looking for hills and viewpoints, head north to Cadbury Camp above Clevedon or Banwell Hill in the south. For beach hikes, you’re spoilt for choice thanks to the Weston-Super-Mere’s vast sandy bays.
