    The broad Lechwehr has been part of the cityscape since the 14th century. Before the city was founded, the Lech fell over a flint rock into the river bed below. The flotsam that he brought with him dammed up on this rock and caused a backlog. In order to eliminate this additional danger for the young city, the rock was built over with five wooden steps and at the same time the river was dammed so that the Mühlbach could also be drained off.
