In the jamb of the colonnade there are thirteen stars made of golden glass mosaic.

The exterior of the memorial is made of Massangis limestone from the Côte d'Or in France. The colonnade, chapel and museum are paved with St. Gotthard granite paving stones.

The names engraved in the columns commemorate the sacrifice of 450 missing men, the so-called 'Missing in Action'. The search for missing men has been an ongoing effort since the end of the war. You will no doubt notice small "rosettes" next to some names, these "rosettes" indicate that the soldier has been recovered and identified.
