Built in 1392, it is the city's landmark and the historic entrance from the east. With its timber-framed storey for the watchman, a steep hipped roof, and bell turret, the 33-meter-high tower acquired its present appearance in 1630.
Since 1981, it has been accessible via 133 steps from the Hohenfeld Chapel to the watchman's apartment.

The ascent through the four-story tower, the only completely preserved structure of the former city wall dating from 1385, at the end of which a wonderful view awaits visitors, leads to further sights: Directly after passing through the Otto Schöfer Hall to the tower, on the first floor to the left, is a cooper's workshop, where tools and products of this craft are on display.
