The Peitz Fortress is an earlier fortification of the Brandenburg city of Peitz, which extended over the area of today's old town. The only surviving aboveground building is the mighty fortress tower, also known as the thick tower, which is also the oldest building in the Peitzer region. Margrave Johann von Küstrin decided in 1557 to build a fortress in Peitz. Between 1590 and 1595 extensive fortifications were built around the entire city. King Frederick the Great gave the order to demolish the fortress in 1767.
