The Dortmunder U, also known as the U-Tower, is a high-rise building on the western edge of Dortmund city built in 1926/1927 as a "fermentation and storage cellar" for the Dortmunder Union brewery. The name is derived from the brewery's logo, which was applied to the main tower in 1968 and completely restored in 2008: a four-sided, nine meter high, gilded and illuminated "U" designed by the architect Ernst Neufert.

The seven-storey, 70-metre-high commercial building is a high-rise in structural terms. The complex, which appears to be the opposite of its vertical orientation and is referred to as a basement high-rise, cold storage facility and fermentation and storage cellar, was built according to plans by Emil Moog, a Dortmund engineer and architect who specialises in brewery buildings.
