In 1991, this stele was moved a few hundred meters from its original location to its current location near Norderländer Straße.
On May 18, 2019, a second stele was unveiled at this memorial, with the name of all 46 victims of this accident.

With 46 fatalities (42 passengers + 4 crew members), this crash of a Lufthansa Convair CV-440 was the most serious air accident by Lufthansa after WWII.
Among the fatalities were 7 swimmers of the Italian Olympic team, their trainer and an Italian reporter who were invited to the 10th international swimming festival in Bremen.

Lufthansa Flight 005 on January 28, 1966, was a scheduled Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Hamburg with a stopover in Bremen. During a go-around maneuver, the twin-engine propeller plane crashed from a low altitude onto a field belonging to the municipality of Stuhr shortly before 7 p.m., just off the runway at Bremen Airport.[1] All 42 passengers and four crew members were killed in the crash.
