At over 400 years old, the Karseggalm is the oldest alpine hut in the Grossarl Valley. The open fireplace in the hut is particularly impressive, where cheese is still made daily in two copper cauldrons. Various types of cheese are made here. Among other things, the sour cheese so typical of the Grossarl Valley. In summer there is the opportunity to watch cheese being made once a week (you can find the exact dates in the events calendar of the Grossarltal Tourist Office at grossarltal.info/veranstaltungen).

The Karseggalm in Großarl-Au is one of the oldest huts in the valley at 350 - 400 years old. Particularly impressive is the open hearth, which is still in operation every day. Here, among other things, the so-called "Knetkäse", a Großarler specialty, smoked. In addition, every week there is the opportunity to watch cheesemaking. On the Karseggalm, when you look at the open fire and experience the tedious management by hand, you feel transported back into the past by several decades.
