Vaellus

This castle is armed to the teeth - which is why it has never been taken by force of arms in its history (its garrison was only persuaded to surrender during the Thirty Years' War with the help of a forged letter). The art collection inside the castle is particularly worth seeing.

Vaellus

The Veste Coburg, also known as the "Franconian Crown", rises high above the city with its mighty walls and towers. 1056 "Koburgk" was first mentioned. The beginnings of today's castle complex date back to the time of the Staufers at the beginning of the 13th century. The era at the beginning of the 16th century brought a cultural heyday, when the Saxon electors used their castle for frequent stays. In the 19th century, the Dukes of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha began to set up world-class art collections there.
