This is at the bottom of the cheeky climb that heads towards Harefield. The road follows a chicane over a narrow bridge that is controlled by traffic lights so make sure you are in control of your speed when coming to the bottom of the hill.

Very pretty riverside location. Doesn't matter which way you come to the bridge the traffic lights always seem to be red here!

The Grand Union Canal near Coy Carp is particularly recommended for beginners in kayaking and canoeing. The adjacent kayak slalom site, near Coppermill Lock, is known as an ideal spot to learn basic white water skills, with Purley Canoe Club often holding informal training sessions here. For leisurely paddling, the canal itself offers a calm, flat-water environment. During summer, the water flow is generally reasonable, providing excellent conditions for beginners to practice and enjoy the scenic canal. You can paddle in either direction along the canal for a relaxed experience.

Are permits needed for kayaking or paddleboarding on the Grand Union Canal near Coy Carp?

Yes, a permit or license is generally required to paddle on the Grand Union Canal. This is typically obtained through membership with organizations like British Canoeing or the Canal & River Trust. How long does it take to kayak a typical route on the Grand Union Canal from Coy Carp?

The duration of a kayaking trip from Coy Carp largely depends on your pace and desired distance. For beginners, a relaxed hour or two can cover a pleasant stretch of the canal and back, allowing you to enjoy the scenery without overexertion.
