The chapel of Nossa Senhora da Guia is located in the extreme south-west of the town and is also a calling card for those who enter via the mouth of the Ave river. The fishermen of the north pray to it and its location right at the mouth of the river serves as an aid to them in crossing this natural barrier. It is the oldest building in the town. References to this can be found in the inventory of the monastery of Guiamrães from the 11th century (1054).
