The well-preserved Trostburg Castle on the eastern slope above the small community of Ponte Gardena was first mentioned at the end of the 12th century as the seat of Cunrat de Trosperch. It then came into the possession of the Lords of Wolkenstein. In the 17th century, the stronghold was rebuilt into a robust fortress. Today, it is the official seat of the South Tyrolean Castle Institute and, since 2005, the South Tyrolean Castle Museum.
