Today, remnants of the Roman and medieval walls can be seen primarily at the present-day town hall, on the street of the same name, "An der Römermauer." There, among other things, the old city wall surrounding the town hall was faithfully rebuilt after bombing raids during World War II destroyed large parts of Bitburg. Parts of the new town hall building were incorporated into an old town tower. The "Green Lake," a moat in front of the city wall, also survived until the present century.

The ROMAN WALL
Bitburg in 10 BC BC - the Romans build the trunk road from Trier to Cologne and build the vicus (= street village) Beda as the first rest station in the area of today's Bitburg city center.
Beda is developing into a flourishing place with hostels, traders, craftsmen, a temple, a theater and a thermal bath. The settlement was founded in 275 AD. destroyed by devastating attacks by Teutons.
