The so-called rooster houses are idyllically located on the edge of the forest. The name comes from its history: According to tradition, during the Thirty Years' War the Swedes marched through this area and pillaged. Looking for protection, the villagers fled to the building, which was a bit out of the way. Of course, they also took their beloved animals with them. Unfortunately, however, a colorful rooster crowed and revealed their hiding place. So this house was also destroyed. And the name was born.

Starting from the church in Schnarrtanne, walk along the Schönheider Straße (direction Schönheide) for approx. 400 meters and then turn left (following the green hiking trail) off the road. After approx. 200 meters you will reach the Hahnenhaus and follow the signposted hiking trail in the direction of Kuhberg. After about 5 kilometers you will reach the mountain hotel with restaurant and lookout tower. From the tower you have a wonderful view over the Vogtland and the Westerzgebirge.
