The chapel was built between 1946 and 1950 at a new location, following plans by the Mayen architect Helmut Goldtschmidt (1918-2005), as a successor to the old, dilapidated St. Stanislaus Chapel. As early as 1936, there were plans to build the new, larger chapel at a different location. In 1939, the new building was approved by the Episcopal Vicariate General, but construction had to be postponed due to the outbreak of World War II. The foundation stone was laid on August 4, 1946. The building application was subsequently approved by the Mayen District Building Authority on January 19, 1949. The interior furnishings were retained from the old St. Stanislaus Chapel. After a long construction phase, the Chapel of the Assumption of Mary was ceremoniously consecrated on November 30, 1950. In 1975, the chapel received a new roof, new bells in 1983, and new windows had to be installed in 1985. From October 1992 to April 1993, the chapel was completely renovated. The current altar was erected and consecrated in 1994. Source: https://www.kuladig.de/Objektansicht/O-86809-20140228-3

The so-called Dreimühlen waterfall is also known as the Nohn waterfall. The name Nohn waterfall comes from the waterfall's proximity to the town of Nohn. The houses on the outskirts of Nohn are only a few hundred meters above the waterfall. Most people talk about the Dreimühlen waterfall, however. The name Dreimühlen comes from a former castle called Dreimühlen. Today, however, only the remains of the walls are said to remain. We looked for the former castle on our trip, but couldn't find anything of it. The waterfall in the Eifel is located between the towns of Üxheim, Kerpen and Nohn. Although the other large towns in the Eifel are not located here, many visitors come here. Some of them travel especially to visit the waterfall. The Dreimühlen waterfall is one of the most visited Eifel attractions. Almost every holidaymaker in the area comes to the waterfall at least once during their Eifel vacation. In addition, many day tourists travel from outside, making it the most visited waterfall in the Eifel. They all want to see the unique natural wonder.

The castle has now been beautifully renovated - a real gem in the small town. Right next door there is a small café with a view of the castle (unfortunately, thanks to the missing section of the A1, it is right next to the busy road). There is also a Deiser castle song - you can find it at http://www.burg-dreis.com/

A carbon dioxide source (mofette) in the forest near Gelenberg, accessible via a beautiful forest path, for example on the themed circular trail "What was really true". Many years ago, it was believed that the release of carbon dioxide was a sign of extinct volcanism. But this is not the case: the molten rock in the earth's interior (magma) contains not only mineral components but also gases such as carbon dioxide, water vapor, sulfur dioxide, fluorine and chlorine. Depending on how warm it is and how much pressure is created, they escape through cracks in the earth's crust. The carbon dioxide source in the Gelenberg forest is a mofette. The volcanic carbon dioxide rises from a depression filled with rainwater and causes the water surface to constantly erupt. The unique thing about it is that the mineral water deposits form the natural carbon dioxide of the Volcanic Eifel, which is the basis of the local sparkling water industry.

a detour into the undergrowth to the source is worthwhile! :)
