This part of the Berlin-Usedom cycle path takes you along wet meadows, marsh forests and small bulges of the Oder Lagoon. Take a little time to enjoy the unique landscape.

Small harbor with food trucks and nice seating. You can also spend the night at the "campsite" here.

The altar design, pulpit, pews and west gallery date from the time of the reconstruction at the end of the 19th century. On the carved altar railing from 1743 are the donor coats of arms of a lieutenant von Massow and his wife, née von Alemann. The woman is probably a daughter of Johann Ernst von Alemann.[3] In memory of the mission in Pomerania by Bishop Otto I of Bamberg, there is a larger-than-life bishop figure in the entrance area. The church also contains the gravestones of the Pomeranian Duke Ratibor I and his wife Pribislawa as well as the mayors J. Rohner and H. O. Volcmar. The stained glass in the choir was made in 1893 at the Royal Institute for Stained Glass in Berlin-Charlottenburg. Source https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/St.-Marien-Kirche_(Usedom)

St. Mary's Church is a three-aisled hall church made of brick with six bays. The eastern stepped gable has pointed arch blinds as decoration. The church has a recessed polygonal choir. The square west tower has side halls. There are buttresses on the choir and nave. A square sacristy with a hipped roof is attached to the south-east corner between the nave and choir. The tower, which is integrated into the nave, has a transverse gable roof in a north-south direction, which is crowned by a roof turret with a high pointed helmet. This is framed by two gables with pinnacle towers, pointed arch blinds and a central clock face. There is a three-lane window above the west portal. To the southwest of this is a stair tower with a conical roof. The nave has a flat wooden beam ceiling inside. It is divided into three naves by wooden supports with arcades. In the choir there is a cross-ribbed vault with pear-shaped profiles. Source https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/St.-Marien-Kirche_(Usedom)

St. Mary's Church was first mentioned in 1337 as the third church in Usedom after St. Paul's Church, to which it was initially subordinate, and the church of Grobe Monastery, both of which no longer exist today. The parish priest of St. Mary's Church usually belonged to the monastery.[1] In 1475 the church was destroyed in a fire in the town. The north wall of the nave, the substructure of the tower and the shape of the windows in the main nave come from the four-bay new building built at the end of the 15th century. The tower was given an octagonal pyramid helmet in 1673. In 1699 a transverse arch of the brick vault collapsed. A major renovation was started in 1726 and completed in 1743. Due to weak foundations, the brick pillars had to be replaced with oak logs, which support the new beamed ceiling. After the Reformation, the Usedom pastor led the synod of the island of Usedom as Praepositus, and from 1806 as Superintendent. The former presidency (superintendent's office), a half-timbered building, stands opposite the west portal of St. Mary's Church.[2] The tower and chancel were given their current appearance in the years 1891 to 1893 during a necessary restoration. According to a design by Ludwig Böttger, the church was largely rebuilt on the original floor plan. The choir was considerably reduced in size and the preserved north side was covered. The tower was remodeled in a neo-Gothic style. The altar of St. Mary was handed over to the then Pomeranian State Museum in Stettin, today the Muzeum Narodowe w Szczecinie, where parts of it and the statue of St. Mary are located. Yep, still looks very intact, well cared for. Apparently it is closed in the winter season.
