Beautiful nature with a beautiful history

This is a nice walk, so from Zwolle you first walk on a beautiful cycle path along the railway line with lots of nature. You really have the feeling of being completely outside the city. Then you walk via the green golf courses to the Wijthmenerplas, which is especially lovely in spring and autumn. I always walk all the way around it and sometimes when it is quiet I sit on a bench by the water for a while. Wonderful. We often go early in the morning and there are usually deer walking around, it's just a lovely place just outside the hustle and bustle of Zwolle😊

Engelgaarde is a beautiful area to cycle or walk through. Here you can enjoy a rich flora and fauna. Find a nice spot and experience the peace and space. There are plenty of benches and picnic areas. The park-like area with a large pond covers approximately 25 hectares and is a favorite place for swimming or fishing and diving. Underwater you will find most (underwater) life between the overhanging vegetation. The lake is the habitat of perch, rudd, carp, pike and freshwater crayfish. Nature at its best!

A beautiful nature reserve. The Reest is the border river between Drenthe and Overijssel. Slowly flowing and meandering, the Reest carries its water from Drogter Storage near Dedemsvaart to Meppel. The valley has its own character and cannot really be compared with the other stream valleys in Drenthe. In fact, De Reest strings together estates, heathlands, forests, stream valley grasslands and atmospheric farms, like pearls on a chain.

Beautiful nature reserve Until 1997, Branch height consisted of two separate reserves. With a nature-friendly design of the intersecting water discharge and a piece of former agricultural land, a beautifully contiguous nature area was created. The Meeuwenveen is a large fen (pingo) with a clear ring wall. The rest of the area consists of heather with water features and a piece of forest. The particularly varied terrain is grazed by a herd of Scottish highlanders.
