Το φρούριο (1611) άντεξε δύο βαριές πολιορκίες το 1689 (κατά τους Ιακωβίτικους Πολέμους) αλλά καταστράφηκε ολοσχερώς από μια καταστροφική πυρκαγιά το 1764. Το κυκλικό μονοπάτι περνά δίπλα από τα ερείπια.

Heading out towards Annagh loop, along the Ballyconnell canal you can enjoy the quite river landscape on mixed towpath and singletrack terrain.

This cute little harbour on Upper Lough Erne also has a little beach by the road plus toilets and showers, so a great place to stop by if you are on a longer tour. St Ninnidh's Well is just inside the wood to the east of the quay, named after one of the Twelve Apostles of Ireland. The water from the well is said to cure problems with eyes.

Managed by the National Trust, the Crom Estate is a large nature reserve of woodlands, lake, castle ruins and islands. It is an important habitat for pine martens, bats, deer, red squirrels and butterflies. The Ballyconnell Lock 2 is one of 16 locks on the Shannon – Erne Waterway, a canal that links the River Shannon in the Republic of Ireland with the River Erne in Northern Ireland. The lock is a wonderful place to watch colourful narrow boats navigate the water on their journey from Leitrim Village to Upper Lough Erne.

Set on the shores of Upper Lough Erne in County Fermanagh, Crom is one of Ireland's most important nature conservation areas. Wild deer, pine marten, red squirrels and many rare species including butterflies can all be found on the estate. Also inhabiting the surrounding area are all eight species of native bats and an outstanding array of rare lichens.
