Here, a small, narrow trail (on the embankment of an old railway line) leads through the bushes. Due to the widening of the A21/B404, construction is underway here, and a section of the trail has been removed – meaning: unfortunately, there will be no further access here at some point.

The nature reserve with the identifier number 128 is located in a moraine landscape south of Kirchbarkau, between Bordesholm and Preetz. It protects an extensive lowland area formed during the Weichselian glaciation, including the two lakes Lütjensee and Hochfelder See. The lakes, which are crossed by waterways and share a common outflow to the Bothkamper See, are surrounded by extensive silting zones. The lowland area is predominantly near-natural. It is largely occupied by fen and wet forests, reed beds, and sedge marshes. In addition, there are tall herbaceous plants and wet grassland. The somewhat higher and drier elevations are dominated by grassland. Hedgerows and scattered deciduous forest communities and woodlands are also found. The grassland areas are used for agriculture. Some areas are extensively grazed by Galloway cattle. The grassland areas are no longer drained and are thus becoming waterlogged.

The headwaters of the Eider, the "Dröge(n) Eider", flows into Lake Bothkamper coming from the south and leaves it in the southwest near Bissee with the name "Eider". The Bothkamper See and its surroundings are part of the FFH area, the area of the "Upper Eider including lakes", which includes the entire upper reaches of the Eider from the Bothkamper See to the eighth weir. The wooden bridge over the Drögen Eider has been renovated. You can continue cycling through the private property towards Siek / Gut Bothkamp.
