On the ascent, the additional loop marked halfway up with magnificent views is worth it. It adds about 30 minutes. Caution! The summit elevation is incorrectly listed on Komoot. The summit is at 950 m, not the stated 850 m. Shortly before reaching the E9, you can turn right onto a forest path, which connects to a trail. This leads to the starting point. This saves you a few hundred meters of paved walking on a busy road.

There's a small parking lot at the northern starting point. There's a public outhouse at the southern starting point. The road that bypasses the tunnel is impassable due to the risk of rockfalls. However, you'll reach the road halfway through the hike and have to follow it.

Just stop when you're passing through and walk the short historical circular route. Signs explain the history, even in German. There are also public toilets at the small parking lot.

Great views of Setesdal

Here on the plateau, there are good opportunities for pitching a tent for the first time. Tent pegs hold on to the small bushes.

Coming from Valle, you'll encounter alpine terrain for the first time, which means you make slow progress; on the other hand, you're also at the top for the first time, which is naturally motivating. It still felt quite far to Bossbu, but that could also be because the sun had already set. You could still turn back to the Stavskar i Setesdal Vesthei hut (https://www.komoot.de/highlight/910380), but of course it's nicer to still make it to Bossbu if that's your plan.

The hut seemed to be one of the most frequented, and certainly not without reason: both huts have a spacious common room with panoramic windows. There are enough small rooms, so with a bit of luck, you'll have private sleeping quarters. There is cell phone reception on a nearby mountain [Botnsfjellet] (15 minutes away); a notice in the hut indicates this. If you start your tour here and aren't yet a DNT member, you should definitely sign up, especially if you're under 27, but it's also worth it if you stay three nights or more; the provisions are also cheaper! You can sign up either on the mountain via your cell phone or on the forms in the hut. You should pay for the huts via app; it's cheaper then! Cozy little rustic cabin! Given its proximity to civilization, it's probably not infrequently used. 9 beds. The cabin is "unattended"; there's no pantry, but there is a gas stove, and you can leave your trash there, so you don't have to carry it around.
