The gate also serves as a bridge over the Kalebeek stream. The north facade of the gate (facing the church) features, in addition to the date 1864, the coat of arms of the t'Kint de Roodenbeke family, who acquired the castle that year (and still own it).

Only a very short distance leads to the shore. Things used to be different: until about ten years ago, people were still swimming freely here (even after it was actually banned). There was even a long rope hanging from one of the trees, from which people swung into the water. Now, almost the entire shore is private property... but that doesn't stop you from enjoying the view to the fullest. Maaigemdijk was always one of my favorite spots (and I certainly wasn't the only one who loved it... and still do).

Wim and Tine open their cozy cafe every day during the summer months and during weekends all year round (in summer on the terrace on the waterfront and in winter in front of the Leuven stew inside or around the fire basket outside). Check facebook.com/oud.sashuis for the most recent updates. Wide choice of beers, soft drinks, wines, coffee and tea, accompanied by all kinds of snacks and homemade cakes, and one of the most beautiful views in the region.
