The former Luigi Lolli psychiatric hospital in Imola has a rich history. In 1772, the Ospedale Santa Maria della Scaletta began treating the mentally ill. In 1841, Dr. Cassiano Tozzoli became director and built a new building, the Asilo Psichiatrico, which opened in 1844. Due to the increasing demand for beds, Dr. Luigi Lolli decided in 1862 to build a larger psychiatric hospital, which was completed in 1880 and could accommodate 800 patients. In 1890, an additional facility, the Osservanza, was opened, which could accommodate up to 1,000 patients. Following the introduction of the Basaglia law, both institutions were finally closed in 1996.

Beautiful panoramic trail on the crest of the gullies. Some stretches could be very narrow due to small landslides. Recommended to pay close attention in those passages, especially if it has rained recently.
