Every time I cycle I admire this Gothic ⛪, but I haven't visited it yet because it's always closed. I'll have to go inside sometime.

The monument was erected in 1961 according to the plans of the architect Marko Šlajmer, and the author of the bronze statue of a naked young man with a message in his hand - a courier - is the academic sculptor Stane Keržič.

FRANCISCAN CHURCH, Ljubljana The image of Prešeren Square is mainly characterized by the Franciscan monastery with the Church of the Annunciation. The Augustinians lived there until the end of the 18th century. The church was built between 1646 and 1660, its facade was completed around 1700, rebuilt in the 19th century and renovated in 1993. Above the facade stands a copper statue of the Virgin Mary, the largest statue of her in the city. The church is decorated with a monumental high altar by the sculptor Francesco Robba, which was built in the mid-18th century. In the mid-19th century, the interior of the church was painted with frescoes by Matevž Langus. The interior acquired its current appearance after the earthquake of 1895. The ceiling of the church was painted with frescoes by Matej Sternen between 1935 and 1936. Plečnik's cross is located in a special chapel. It was built in 1987 based on plans by Peter Gabrijelčič, who received the Prešeren Fund Award for it in 1988. It was modeled on bridges by Jože Plečnik.

Legend has it that Ljubljana was founded by the Greek legendary hero Jason, who stole the Golden Fleece from King Aites and then fled with his comrades, the Argonauts, on the ship Argo across the Black Sea into the Danube and Sava to Ljubljanica. There the Argonauts dismantled the ship and took it to the Adriatic to reassemble it and return to Greece. On the way towards the coast you stopped at the source of the Ljubljanica, a large lake and moor where a dragon lived. Jason took on the dragon, defeated it and killed it.

The dragon is the symbol of Ljubljana. He proudly sits enthroned in the city's coat of arms and on the Dragon Bridge named after him.
