The "Castillo de Alcocer" is a place steeped in history, mainly known for the famous song about the national hero and Castilian knight El Cid, who worked here in the 11th century. According to the song, on the 16th day of his exile, El Cid passed through Ateca and camped on the hill of Torrecid, opposite the fortified village of Alcocer.
