The shelter at Mirador Douglas Tompkins is quite open and unfortunately does not really protect against the wind that blows here. There are picnic tables.

There is an open shelter with picnic tables at the Douglas Tompkins lookout point. It is still very drafty.

Spent a day here sheltering from the rain, warm fire to dry clothes, delicious coffee, cakes & pizzas!

There are now five of us. It continues to rain and we rent a larger cabana with a fireplace. One of the graders is parked outside, loosening and straightening the Carretera Austral's gravel to remove the washboard road and potholes. Unfortunately, this loose gravel is difficult to ride on bicycles, so we are not at all happy when we see these things.

It's raining, it's uncomfortably cold, but still wonderful views of the blue Rio Murta, washboard slopes. The hut is dilapidated. We get boards to barricade the windows from the icy wind.

Small but nice refuge with an open fireplace and, if you're lucky, a little dry wood. There is a toilet next door. There are small notes on the walls from cyclists, especially those who were here with children

Very rustic, super friendly family place to eat, dry out and stay the night. 16,000-20,000 peso for dinner bed and breakfast, and a friendly cat to stroke.
