The pond was founded by Zacharias of Hradec in 1565 as a source of drinking water for nearby Telč. It still serves as a backup source today. It is also used for fish farming and there is a nature reserve of the same name here. The area of the pond and its immediate swampy surroundings resemble a taiga. Among the important plants here we can find the southern bubble plant, flowering basil, marsh devil, female fern and others. Many swamp insects, spiders and small vertebrates live here. Mapy.com

Originally, its recreational use was considered, but right at the beginning of its operation, its importance was supplemented by its use for water supply purposes. Vír I is part of a set of connected buildings that enable comprehensive use of the water resource. The construction of the waterworks began in 1947 and ended in 1957. The main element of the ensemble is a concrete gravity dam 66.2 m high, its crown is 9 m wide and 390 m long. 5 m).
