Ellinge was once built as a defensive castle and is located on the Bråån, a tributary of the Lödde å (Kävlingeån). These two rivers once formed a strategic defense line for southern Skåne and are also home to the old fortified castles of Skarhult, Flyinge, Viderup, Örtofta and Borgeby. The main building of the castle is very old, possibly dating back to the 15th century. During the 1950s, the castle underwent extensive renovation, during which older architectural details were retained. The castle is still surrounded by the old moats. (Wikipedia)

1500s In 1538, when Skåne belonged to Denmark, the national council and the knight Tage Ottesen Thott († 1562) had a castle erected here which he named Eriksholm after his dead brother, Erik. Eriksholm became a fully enclosed facility with a three-storey brick building around a square courtyard with a wide water trench with a wind bridge in front of the eastern gate. Since Skåne was the scene of many battles in the 16th century, it was important to build a castle that could withstand the increasingly advanced weapons. When Ottesen built his Eriksholm, the tomb had ended only two years earlier. When Ottesen died in 1562, his son, Otte Tagesen Thott (19), inherited Eriksholm, including the family estate Näs. When Otte (45) died in 1588, his widow Sophie Ottesdatter Brahe (32) took over the management of the farm. She was also a sister to astronomer Tycho Brahe. (Slottsguiden.se)
