During the Second World War, Canon Louis DESBIOLLES, then parish priest of Sallanches, vowed to build a replica of the Lourdes cave if the city was spared the bombs. It was in fact in this town in the Pyrenees that the young Bernadette SOUBIRO reported in 1858 several apparitions of the Virgin Mary. Hard to believe the village of Saint Gervais sits this close to the deep cliffs with roaring waters at the bottom. The path down to this viewpoint is well kept but steep and often muddy/slippery — mind your step!
