Kjemåforssen is a gorgeous cascade that's easy to hike to from the Nordland National Park Centre in Storjord. Here, steps and bridge have been put in place to allow a safe way across. The views from the bridge are excellent.

This is a superb place to take in the majestic surroundings on the Kjemåforssen loop. Bring a picnic, as there's a bench for you to take the weight off your feet.

This is beautiful cascade that makes for a super objective on a hike. There's a signposted loop from the Nordland National Park Centre in Storjord. A hike here is rich in wildlife and scenic splendour.

Horsdal is the starting point for the excellent hike up Sandhornet. Its ferry port has links to nearby Bødo, Nordland's administrative centre. There's also parking and a bus stop – the island of Sandhornøya is connected to the mainland by the Sandhornøy Bridge.

Some claim the trek up to Sandhornet to be the finest in the Gildeskål region. The peak certainly draws the eye with its pointed summit. The views reward your efforts with Lofoten, Steigen, Værøy, Røst, Træna on the Helgeland coast and Svartisen all visible from the top on a clear day.

Ryten is a deservedly popular objective that's suitable for avid hiking families. The views from the top down to the idyllic Kvalvika Beach are sumptuous. Take care on the path up, as the cliff edge is never far away... and it's very steep.
