Unfortunately, you can only enter the inner courtyard and admire the old half-timbering from the outside. You will also find little information about this on site.

The exterior shots of the bunker scenes from “The Olsen Gang in Jutland” were filmed in the museum.

When you arrive at the castle, you tend to quickly pass through the gateway to reach the courtyard and the entrance. The courtyard is quite pleasant, but the Renaissance front facade is the real highlight. The architect, Ingeborg Skeel (+1604), apparently had such an excellent relationship with King Frederik II that he gave her the wonderful sandstone portal, which was actually created for Frederiksborg Castle. Little ones can enjoy watching the swallows that have built a nest right next to the keystone and flit back and forth to feed their hungry young, the family of swans crossing in strict formation on the moat, or the heraldic lions cheekily sticking out their tongues. The sandstone work is wonderful and worthy of a royal castle. Strong warriors gaze out at you, somewhat faded-looking ladies, a court jester dances between the windows. All kinds of artistic tendrils, grotesques and animal faces create a great variety and liveliness of the façade.

Voergård Slot is a Renaissance complex that is said to be one of the most beautiful castles in Denmark. Its history is interesting: the equally enterprising and unscrupulous widow Ingeborg Skeel had the castle built at the end of the 16th century. She is said to have derived her wealth, among other things, from beach rights, diligently assisting the shipwrecks. And instead of paying the castle's architect, she is said to have sunk him in the bog. Her ghost still restlessly haunts the castle at night, so much so that the last owner, Count Ejnar Overbeck-Clausen, left the doors open at night to avoid being disturbed by the constant knocking. After Ingeborg Skeel, the castle continued to grow over the centuries until it was saved in 1955 by Ejnar Overbeck-Clausen, a self-made man who had risen from a forester's son to count and become immensely wealthy in France. He furnished the palace with a magnificent art collection, including some marvelously odd pieces. In addition to a Goya (The Madman), a Rubens, and an El Greco, there is Napoleon's porcelain, the porcelain used for Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette in the Bastille before their execution, screens that could be used to create a "little room" for Louis XIV at any time and in any place, and much more. Among the special sights is an irremovable bloodstain on the floor, which was caused when Ingeborg Skeel stabbed her foster daughter with scissors in the tower room. It even reappeared after the renovation and replacement of the floorboards, due to the fact that it was "innocent blood," whose properties are well known. You are given a loving tour of the palace, which is only accessible with a guide, as all objects are exposed and unprotected. A truly special experience.
