Liberation Square in St. Helier was officially opened as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations in 1995. The main building adjacent to the square, built in 1901 as part of St. Helier's railway station, served as the German Port Authority during the occupation. From a first-floor window of this building, the first two Allied soldiers to arrive in Jersey, Surgeon-Lieutenant Ronald McDonald and Sub-Lieutenant David Milln, hoisted the Union Flag onto the roof. There are lots of nice play equipment on the playground (the hippos as trash cans are also fun) as well as an elephant as a slide. There are public toilets on site. There is also a cafe on site, but it was not open (end of April)

There is a bike rental in the old train hall. There is also a helpful bike map directly in front of the hall.
