The Fellberg, majestically towering over the town of Steinach in the Sonneberg district, is a true natural paradise for hikers, mountain bikers and skiers. At 842 metres high, it offers breathtaking views and a wealth of outdoor activities in the Thuringian Slate Mountains. When I visited the Fellberg, I was immediately impressed by its impressive landscape and the variety of opportunities it offers. The mountain, which forms part of the Thuringian Slate Mountains, rises a good 300 metres above Steinach and, together with the neighbouring Breitenberg, forms a horseshoe shape open to the south. This allows for a comfortable hike from one peak to the other. The Fellbergbaude, located close to the ski slope, is an ideal place to take a rest. With its wonderful views, it is a popular meeting point for hikers and skiers. In winter, the Fellberg is transformed into Thuringia's largest ski area, the Silbersattel Ski Arena, and offers excellent conditions for skiers and cross-country skiers. The Fellberg is a true paradise for mountain bikers and downhill athletes. Thuringia's largest and first bike park offers optimal conditions here. The double chairlift takes cyclists and their bikes comfortably to the Fellberg plateau, where they can choose from a variety of downhill runs with different levels of difficulty. There are suitable routes for families and beginners as well as professional bikers. The Fellberg is also historically interesting. The largest stone quarries in the world are located on the southern foothills of the mountain at Geiersberg. These historic quarries give the region a unique cultural significance.

The Eisfelder Ausspanne, located deep in the heart of the Thuringian Forest, is a truly idyllic resting place for hikers and nature lovers. This hiking highlight, surrounded by dense forest and rich history, is a perfect place for a well-deserved break. When I visited the Eisfelder Ausspanne, I was immediately captured by the quiet and peaceful atmosphere of the place. The refuge offers shelter and an opportunity to take a break, while the well-preserved "mile block" tells a piece of the place's history. The name “Ausspanne” derives from the tradition of unharnessing the horses here during the difficult crossing of the Thuringian forest ridge. The Eisfelder Ausspanne is an important crossroads on the Rennsteig and offers hikers various route options. Whether you come from Masserberg or Waffenrod or visit the Werraquelle - this place is an ideal starting or finishing point for numerous hikes. The space itself is equipped with many benches and tables, making it an inviting place for a longer rest. Here you can relax, enjoy the silence of the forest and strengthen yourself for the rest of your journey. It is also a popular meeting point for hikers who come here to exchange experiences and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

This is a special point! Three large river systems meet here. However, this is not unique in Germany. I liked the design of the place.
