Very beautiful castle ruins with a beautiful view of the plain. The climb is worth it. The village below the castle is also great.

"The iron gate used to be called "Wormser Tor". But if you are looking for parts made of heavy metal, you will look in vain. Because the name iron gate is solely due to the Palatinate dialect. The outer gate became the "iron gate" and from it today's Designation "iron gate". Two mighty towers take the archway between them. In relation to the rest of the city wall, the complex turned out to be a bit too bulky and it is a demonstration of Palatinate power at that time. The construction of the fortifications around what was then Freinsheim ended with the iron gate. The coat of arms of the Electoral Palatinate is attached above the driveway. Among other things, it bears the inscription of the year it was made, 1514. The number four, as was customary in earlier times, was represented as half eight. The "Bavarian diamond" in the coat of arms may surprise some guests, but it is a characteristic of the Wittelsbach family, to which the Electoral Palatinate also belonged." Battenberg is the ruins of a hilltop castle in the Leininger Sporn on the edge of the Palatinate Forest. It is located on the edge of the local community of the same name in the Bad Dürkheim district (Rhineland-Palatinate) and is one of the three castles on the upper Eckbach that date back to the early days of the Leininger family.
