Well-maintained moated castle in the Weser Renaissance style, with a neo-Gothic extension. The castle and gardens are owned by the von Rössing family. The castle is inhabited, so no access, but there are good views of the park and castle on the north, west and east sides.

All that remains of Poppenburg Castle today is an L-shaped building complex, most of which consists of a Renaissance castle. The building is higher towards the south and appears very tower-like due to the high roof. On all the walls you can see numerous window openings that have been bricked up or newly built in over the centuries. Today there is no trace of the eastern part of the castle. One encounters newer buildings here, which in the shape of a horseshoe give the castle a manorial character. History: The nobility of the castle was first mentioned in a document in 1146. The remains of a medieval complex can be found in the Renaissance castle. Today the facility is privately owned and can only be viewed from the main road or the bridge.
