One of the largest historic water mills in Lower Saxony The Scheeßel watermill has been around for 500 years. Cared for, restored and cared for by the Scheeßer Mühle e.V. association since 2003. The mill is recognized as a technical monument. On the German Mill Day (annually on Whit Monday) the mill is put into operation and can be visited. On the day of the open monument, an arts and crafts market takes place in the mill. Other activities: Visits to the mill are possible from May to September on the 1st and 3rd Sunday and guided tours by appointment. I headed for the Vareler Heide on a tour between Hamburg and Bremen in order to avoid the main road as much as possible. I was very positively surprised. There is a lot of heather here, sheep or goats graze here and you can also see historic stables. The path through the heath is a lot of fun to drive because it is narrow and technically feasible. A highlight is the beautifully designed recreation area with a work of art. Here you have a great view over the heath. Conclusion: a must see.
