lost place »... The Hammerschloss Röthenbach is a castle in Röthenbach in the Markt Kohlberg (Upper Palatinate) in the Upper Palatinate district of Neustadt an der Waldnaab. The complex is listed as an archaeological monument under file number D-3-6337-0015 in the Bavarian Atlas as "archaeological findings from the Middle Ages and the early modern period in the area of Röthenbach Castle, including traces of previous buildings or older construction phases and the associated iron hammer". Before the Waldnaabtal Museum moved into the walls of Neuhaus Castle, this historic place had a long history behind it. The castle was built in 1300 as a hunting lodge. In 1515 it was sold to the Waldsassen monastery and after secularization it became the property of the market town of Neuhaus. Luckily, the castle was spared war damage, so you can visit the magnificent museum there today.
