Since there was no sign here, I arrived here and had to cross the river because there is no longer a bridge connecting both sides of the road. So that you don't feel the same way as me, I'm creating this highlight. 🚴

I rode here with my lightly packed gravel bike with 35mm road bike tires, as there are no instructions to the effect that it is only possible to ride with advanced riding skills. I will not ride here again and will instead stay on the 35 - Panamericana and accept the 60 km and 500 hm more from Alausí to La Troncal. 🚴

The Temple of the Sun poses remarkably on the small rise and serves as the main attraction of the Ingapirca ruins, which in turn represent the most important cultural site of the Incas in Ecuador. No comparison with Machu Picchu, of course, but still worth seeing.

A gorgeous and long climb starting at the foot of the Andes. Reasonably steady gradient of 5-7%. What makes this tough is not the gradient but its length and the total ascent of more than 2,500 meters. It is advisable to cycle this with a following car to provide security from the frequent trucks, busses and pick-ups that go up and down this road at high speed. Make sure you have enough supplies with you, as there is only the one gas station just before Ducur.
