I recommend to do the path with shoes that can get wet. There's some waste here and there, but it's still very beautiful

The bridge is the largest in Guatemala and one of the largest in Central America. Large trucks and tankers drive non-stop over and through the small bustling center of Rio Dulce. From the top you have a wide view.

The current castle was built in 1651 at the mouth of Lake Izabal by order of the Oidor Antonio De Lara y Mogrovejo, who gave it its current name in honor of the king. The Río Dulce connects Lake Izabal to the Caribbean Sea and was subject to frequent pirate attacks in the 16th and even into the 18th centuries (Wikipedia). Admission 75 quetzales, open until 5pm. There is also a bathing beach, a small pool and showers/changing rooms, so pack your bathing suit.

From here you can make a great hike to Siete Altares. About 50 minutes away, a river forms several pools, the largest of which is also swimmable. The best way to get to the bridge is by tuktuk. Unfortunately Siete Altares dried up at least at the end of the dry season (April).
