Circular walk starting from Wolfenden Hall public footpath then up the back of Fairsnape and down to the beginning of the walk.

Stunning views — in clear air you can see the seaside as far as Lytham and even Blackpool Tower. On some days, ultralight planes pass overhead, adding a unique attraction. They glide close like giant birds — always a pleasure to watch.

Path is straightforward and accessible in dry weather. My 10-year-old granddaughter managed it easily — a good relaxed hike.

Don't dally too long. It's a long hike from here to anywhere you intend to go and, if you consider hiking back up via the track along Bleadale Water, prepare to be challenged crossing the Langden Brook and then Bleadale Water to get to the lesser used track on the eastern flank of the Bleadale. We almost made it across the deep boggy, rush filled area strewn across the valley floor with fast flowing Langdon Brook to contend with. But we turned back, a little traumatised and very frustrated that we didn't reach the dry track. We decided to take the safe track from the Langdon Castle ruins, east along the northern bank of Langdon Brook to the Water Works and Trough Road, where we were lucky to find a Trail Angel in the form of Mountain Rescue member, Graham. We were overstretched after our challenging, risky and exhausting attempts to get across to Bleadale Water track. Graham drove us back the ten miles by road to our car. We might have made it back via our other option over the Totridge Fell but the sun was going down and we might have encountered other unknowns and put ourselves through unnecessary stress and even the need for a full- blown Mountain Rescue. A donation to Mountain Rescue for Graham's help and kindly advice, encouragement to try again, with accompanying, sobering stories of others who have not been so lucky in these hills.
