Built in 1612 under Landgrave Moritz I and burned down in October 1923, the former Herrenmühle (a mill for men) is now a hydroelectric power plant and is family-owned. The lock and weir also date back to the time when the Fulda River was developed into a shipping route between Kassel and Bad Hersfeld under Moritz I. Unfortunately, the lock is no longer operational, unlike the ones further downstream.

The old town of Rotenburg an der Fulda is one of the best-preserved half-timbered towns in Germany. It lies on the German Fairy Tale Route and is surrounded by a well-preserved city wall with towers.

The cycle path offers a varied route through nature and culture, crossing the Fulda floodplains near Kassel, a near-natural reserve with numerous birdlife. The route is predominantly gently sloping, making it suitable for a wide audience, although alternative routes are recommended during flooding.

Located in the central Fulda Valley, the town, first documented in 1248, offers a beautiful starting or ending point for cycling, mountain biking, and hiking. The Hessian Long-Distance Cycle Route R1 and the long-distance hiking trails WILDBAHN X3 and WARTBURGPFAD X9 run through the town.

The Fulda cycle path is very well developed and offers a lot of variety when cycling. There is always something new for cyclists to discover. It is very popular, and rightly so. At weekends and on public holidays, that means it gets busy.

The old town of Rotenburg has a lot of half-timbered houses and is well preserved. The bridge was suddenly in front of me - somehow it was exciting to see what was waiting on the other side. If you have time, you can explore it.
